The monograph “The Paradoxes in the Theory of Knowledge: Logical Foundation of Epistemological Criticism of Relativism”, 2020.
The result of the implementation of the first grant of Russian Science Foundation in the history of academic science in Tomsk on humanitarian topics was the publication of the monograph “Paradoxes in the Theory of Knowledge: Logical Foundation of Epistemological Criticism of Relativism”.
The project implemented with the support of the grant is called “Logic and Epistemology: Russell’s and Tarski’s Hierarchical Approach to Solving the Problem of Paradoxes”. The support of the project is recognition of the research carried out at the Tomsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS because only a few projects in the field of philosophy were approved at that time in Russia at all.
This period became a time of active scientific research for the philosophers. They made significant progress in their research the results of which were reflected in thirty articles published in the journals Scopus and Web of science as well as the monograph by Vsevolod Ladov, the head of the laboratory of logical and philosophical research at the TSC SB RAS.
The book is called “The Paradoxes in the Theory of Knowledge: Logical Foundation of Epistemological Criticism of Relativism”. Its publication can be seen as a kind of point in the dispute between the followers of theories of a realistic and relativistic interpretation about the nature of truth. Followers of relativism which include many modern humanitarian theories believe that truth depends on the subjective attitudes of the researcher himself as well as on a number of cultural, linguistic and ideological factors. However, in the paradigm of world logical and philosophical thought it was possible to prove that it is precisely the theories of a realistic character which perceive truth objectively correspond to the criterion for scientific theories, namely, consistency. It is important to note that most modern scientific theories in different areas of scientific knowledge develop in this paradigm.
Additional information: The Tomsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS takes its place on the world map of philosophical research. On the territory of the Siberian Federal District there are only two academic institutions where work on this issue is being carried out - the Tomsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS and the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the SB RAS in Novosibirsk. The main direction of research of the philosophical team of the TSC SB RAS is the development of logical foundations for the construction of theories, both philosophical and scientific - natural science, physical and mathematical as well as the analysis of already existing world theories: whether they logically consistent or not. Philosophers of the TSC SB RAS work in close cooperation with researchers from the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the SB RAS and Tomsk State University.
